Over $50,000 Raised for Adoption Through Mustaches That Matter

146 men grew out their mustaches to raise over $50,000 for adoption in three weeks.

After three weeks of intense facial hair competition, over $50,000 has been raised through Mustaches That Matter to help families bring children home.

Mustaches That Matter is committed to partnering with families in the adoption process to help complete their financial needs. 146 men mustered up the courage to grow out their mustaches, and together, they raised $50,000, meeting our 2015 goal.

The men passed out business cards and engaged in conversations throughout the month to ask family, friends, and coworkers to financially sponsor their mustaches. Mustaches That Matter t-shirts were also sold at weekend services to raise even more support. Caleb Thompson of Walnut Creek Downtown won the Most Valuable Mustache award for raising $3,235.

With the funds raised last year, Mustaches That Matter was able to help 15 families adopt 17 children internationally and domestically. Families applied for assistance, and throughout the last few months, the Mustaches That Matter board met with the families and determine the assistance amount.

All people are created equal in God’s image, and God is passionate about His children. Mustaches That Matter is a response to God’s call to care for orphans as we desire to align our heart with His.

Mustaches That Matter: Growing Season Begins June 28

Growing season begins June 28.

Mustaches That Matters begins June 28, kick-starting three weeks of facial hair competition to raise our base goal of $50,000 for adoption.

Although the United States is the leading adopting country, international adoption has dropped nearly 50 percent since 2004. Mustaches That Matter leverages the power of mustaches to help families in the adoption process cross their financial finish line. All funds raised go toward our adoption assistance fund to support multiple families each year adopting internationally or domestically.

Last summer 206 men helped us raise over $76,000, more than three times our initial goal of $25,000. With the money raised, Mustaches That Matter financially supported 15 families in the adoption process. All people are created equal in God’s image. God is passionate about His children and so are we. Mustaches That Matter is a response to God’s call to care for orphans as we desire to align our heart with His.

You can join the cause in two ways: by growing your own mustache and raising support as you grow, or by financially sponsoring someone else's mustache. Each man participating is responsible for inviting friends, relatives, and coworkers to vote and financially sponsor his mustache. Once men reach their fundraising goal, they can shave.

Mustaches That Matter Adoption Assistance Application Now Open

Last summer, Walnut Creek Church launched Mustaches That Matter, an initiative to share about the great need and joy in adoption. Mustaches That Matter was a response to God’s call to care for orphans as we desired to align our heart with God's heart.

We asked men to grow a mustache and then invite friends, relatives, and coworkers to financially sponsor their mustache. From July 25 to August 25, 206 men decided to grow with us and unleash the power of their mustaches for a greater cause.

Within the first week, we met our goal of raising $25,000. The next week we raised an additional $15,000. In four weeks, Mustaches That Matter raised $76,300 to help families provide waiting children with loving and permanent homes.

Mustaches That Matter partners with families in the adoption process to help them cross their financial finish line. Money raised goes toward our adoption assistance fund to help multiple families each year who are adopting internationally or domestically.

If you are in the adoption process, consider applying for financial assistance through Mustaches That Matter. Or if someone you know is adopting, share with them how they could get help finishing their financial needs. Mustaches That Matter exists to help bring children home. We would love to be part of your family’s adoption story.

The application for assistance is now open through March 31.

Over $76,000 Raised for Adoption Through Mustaches That Matter

The Ekwall family of Walnut Creek Johnston spent five weeks in Columbia this summer. Mustaches That Matter helped the Ekwalls adopt Jose (13) and Maria (11) from Columbia and bring them home to Iowa.

Mustaches That Matter launched July 25, and within the first week, we met our goal of raising $25,000. In one month Mustaches That Matter raised $76,300, which will help families in the adoption process bring children home.

Throughout the campaign, 206 men participated by growing their own mustaches. The men passed out business cards and engaged in conversations throughout the month to ask family, friends, and coworkers to financially sponsor their mustaches. Although the mustache contest ended August 25..

Mustaches That Matter leverages the power of mustaches to help families in the adoption process cross their financial finish line, whether adopting internationally, domestically, or through the foster care system. All the funds raised go into our adoption assistance fund to help multiple families, like the Ekwalls, each year.

Mustaches That Matter also received media attention and was featured on both WHO TV Channel 13 News and Great Day on KCWI 23, raising further awareness about adoption.

The 2014 Mustache That Matters Award recipients will be displayed at the Walnut Creek Downtown and Windsor Heights locations. Jordan Harlow won the Most Valuable Mustache award for raising $4,050. The Most Macho Mustache Award was given to Kyle Kurtenbach who earned 2,402 votes. Lucas Vander Weerdt won the Most Magnificent Mustache Award with 164 votes, and the Most Meager Mustache Award was earned by Alex Crittenden with 1,707 votes.

Leveraging the Power of Mustaches for Adoption

Why grow facial hair for your own selfish gain? Beginning July 25, men are unleashing the power of their mustaches to raise $25,000 to help financially support families in our church who are in the adoption process.

Although the United States is the leading adopting country, international adoption has dropped nearly 50 percent since 2004. Last year, Americans adopted 7,092 children. However, children in Iowa and around the world are still waiting.

Mustaches That Matter assists families adopting internationally, domestically, or through the foster care system. All funds raised go toward our adoption assistance fund to support multiple families each year.

You can join the cause in two ways: by growing your own mustache and raising support as you grow, or by financially sponsoring someone else's mustache. Each man participating is responsible for inviting friends, relatives, and coworkers to vote and financially sponsor his mustache. Once they reach their fundraising goal, they can shave.
